Wise Dreams

Dreams are a means by which your inner spirit self can communicate with your everyday surface self.  The language of the dream is in symbols, so the meaning may not always be immediately apparent to us, who are so accustomed to using words to communicate.  The symbols, however, are your own, and the meaning is accessible through considering/intuiting what the symbol may mean to you.  Outside suggestions for interpretation can be useful; however, it is you alone who can discern what your own dreams want to tell you.

Personal Symbols
People sometimes have symbols that reoccur in their dreams.  These are very personal and specific to your own concepts and feelings, and recognizing what they may stand for can help you in understanding the messages in your dreams.  For instance, when I was a child, there was a big fancy department store in our city where my mother took me shopping occasionally.  It had tall ceilings and white shiny floors with many aisles of tastefully lavish fashion displays and expensive bottles of perfume, cosmetics and radiant jewelry on velvet in mirror-shelved glass cases.  When you stepped on the escalator and rose toward the second floor, the huge first floor spread out before you in a vast, mysterious, glittery expanse.  That department store became my dream symbol for the world -- huge, cold, seductive and bewildering -- during my young years.

Help and Advice from Within
Some dreams carry specific insight into ways that you can help yourself develop and improve your life.  When you remember and record your dreams later, these messages often come clear and can be put to use.  When I write down a dream I've had, I try to include every detail; these often add special meaning to the message of the dream.  As I am writing, ideas will pop into my mind about one aspect or another, so that when I have finished writing down the dream, I begin a separate section in which I discuss the ideas I have had about the meanings of the particular parts.  These insights often grow to encompass the bigger message the dream holds for me, which usually contains useful insight for dealing with 'where I am' at that period of my life.

I have had many dreams that carry messages which are personal and specific to myself.  However, once in awhile, I have a dream that conveys a more universal message.  These I will post here for the benefit of any who can use the insight held there.
